What I wore to a Super Bowl party in Jamaica Plain, at Korinn's. She owns Ula Cafe and obviously the food there was amazing. There were two roast ducks, jambalaya, meatballs, tabouli, and probably four different sauces.

In 2007, the average American woman purchased 4 handbags each year. That same year, I went through 2 handbags because one broke and the other was stolen. Here's a rundown of the bags above:
1. Prada-- my mom loves nylon Prada bags. She has two new ones and gave these to me.
2. Balenciaga-- Used, got it from consignment for $400. I saved part of my paychecks for months to buy it. I think it was $1600.
3. Harajuku Lovers-- waterproof duffle for my laptop and gym clothes. My ex got it on eBay, was great when we went sailing (he's an instructor).
4. Louis Vuitton-- my mom got it as a gift and used it as a diaper bag. See the stains on the bottom? That's from my bottles.
5. Chanel-- another gift to my mom from her friends.
6. American Apparel-- a boy stole it and gave it to me.

In American culture, there is a tendency to buy cheap and trendy (versus well-made) and then to buy another as soon as it breaks. I think that I'm in a point in my life where I can commit to a nice leather bag, but I'm too picky.

My criteria:
1. Silver or gunmetal hardware.
2. Suede or matte genuine leather.
3. Zipper or flap closure. No bucket bags or magnetic tops, I don't want to get robbed.
4. Crossbody strap. I'm a girl who needs to run to catch the bus and climb over fences.
5. Dark and monochromatic.
6. Fits a wallet, a cellphone, keys, and a bottle of water.
7. Not too big. Big bags are for high-maintenance people.
8. Under $200.

This comes close:

I don't think I'm asking for too much. You'd think that some female designers would know what the ladies want, but these days Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler are the only designers making girl-on-the-go handbags...

Good thing it was sunny out today. My car broke down and I had to walk to where my mom works so I could drive her car to sculpture class.

Sharon and I had to take down our installations last week but we took pictures. Sharon owns a zillion cute sweaters, so I told her she should work at Anthropologie. Art is tough for me because I don't want to fake it. I just want all my obsessions and compulsions to come out and not have to explain myself.
That's how I feel about dressing. I know my outfits are boring! Today I wore all gray. I tried painting my nails hot pink 3 days ago but I hated it and now they're black again. I'm adverse to ruffles. I avoid blouses. I don't own a pair of brown shoes. Is it bad that I know what I like?

If I run uphill I'm out of breath, if I spend all of my money I've got no money left.

When I was a kid, I played a lot of music. Violin + viola + piano = no long nails, no rings, no bracelets. I stopped playing last year and I can't stop wearing all three. I started wearing rings only last month... I guess I'm a late bloomer? I also didn't really wear heels until two years ago.

I'm going to give this another shot. I'm going to blog about whatever strikes me from now on.
I heard about a couple suicides this week and I can't stop thinking about them. I think of suicides as being like congenital aneurysms that suddenly rupture. You can't predict it. I also believe that you're either born with the capacity to commit suicide, or you aren't. Drugs and hard times mess with everybody's heads, but only a few people will slit their wrists or step off the top of a building. Personally, I am incapable of killing myself because of the fear that my secrets will come out.

I got my digital issue of NYLON and saw these wedge booties by Alice and Olivia for Payless. Not bad for $50. I could see myself walking around campus in these.

The samples had four buckles on each side in February, but that's okay. I still made them an early Valentine :]

Sarah of Vampirate Wars tagged me with the Kreativ Blogger award! The florals and plaid aren't really my thing, so I made my own with two things I love: Frank Stella and tattoo lettering.

When I was 6, I learned to sew and started playing the violin. I practiced hard until college, and now I barely touch the instrument because I'm busy studying fashion design.
Sometimes I wish my parents weren't so controlling.
I have been pretty much the same size since 6th grade.
My favorite foods are cheesecake, watermelon, and grass jelly but I am not a picky eater. I will try almost anything once (including crickets).
The scar on my leg is from when I tripped on a hockey net while ice skating. The blade stabbed me in the shin and I needed stitches at the ER. I have not been ice skating since.
I love going to Bang Camaro shows!
If I could trade places or bodies with anyone, I'd trade with Ashlee Simpson. Seriously. Her life is pretty much the complete package.
My parents don't know that I live with my boyfriend. They also don't know that we are dating.

Obey Exeriment Redux at ICA Boston

Artist Shepard Fairey (aka the man behind the iconic Obama T-shirts) came back to Boston for the closing of his show at the ICA. The event sold out and tickets were going for $200 on eBay, but luckily Karmaloop had a few to spare for the interns and we got to go! I think it went better than the opening party because Fairey didn't leave in handcuffs this time.

A few weeks ago I went to the screening of The Girlfriend Experience, which comes out next week. I wasn't really into the style of the film, but I was excited to see an Audrey Kawasaki print in Chris and Christine's apartment.

Then last weekend My Dishonest Heart went on sale and I bought one!
Also, Sasha Grey was totally charming as a speaker even though she received some really stupid questions from Brandeis students. Like,

Hi, I'm Aimy.

I go to school at Brandeis University and I am majoring in studio art. My minors are economics and business, but I like taking sociology, Japanese, and history classes too.
My bf took this photo for my chictopia blog, which I keep abandoning because I am not good about updating with photos. I don't take enough photos of the things I make either, and I like to make things. Hopefully this blog will keep me on track.
